In the experimental piece Fragments of Space, Gašper Bohinec transforms light into a dynamic interpretation of time that transcends traditional shadow play. Through light animation, he guides the audience on a journey through the history of the Minorite complex into the narrative of the present time.The project explores the subtle interactions between light, objects, and mechanical structures, consciously avoiding the presence of performers. The central active agent is light, which, in harmony with puppet-like elements and spatial compositions, transforms into visual poetry. At the forefront are architectural fragments—carriers of historical significance—that create a space for reflection on the past and present. The audience is offered not merely a visual experience but an opportunity for personal interpretation and emotional resonance.

In this project, light is not merely illumination; Gašper Bohinc is interested in its potential as a carrier of symbolism and emotional nuances, capable of transforming architectural fragments into vivid visual compositions. The mechanical interventions he employs operate at the intersection of technical precision and poetic expression, raising questions about the relationships between the physical and the metaphysical, the past and the present, and the objective and subjective experience of space. Fragments, imbued with memories of the past, gain new meanings through movement and light—becoming moments where the past not only echoes but is actively revived in the present.

The audience is invited on a journey where every moment of light, every mechanical motion, and every architectural fragment opens new questions about the nature of space, time, and our place within it.

Gašper Bohinec is a lighting designer working in the field of theatre and performing arts. His work is distinguished by innovation, technical precision, and artistic sensitivity. Among the most notable projects he has contributed to as a lighting designer are the performances Heroj 3.0 and 4.0, Godzilla Tribute Band, Zvezda in srce, and Gluha republika.

Throughout his career, he has collaborated with numerous renowned cultural institutions, including the Maribor Puppet Theatre, Moment Maribor, SNG Nova Gorica, Cankarjev dom and Gledališče Glej. Additionally, he is active in interdisciplinary projects that intertwine theatre, music, and puppetry, further enriching his diverse artistic expression.

The event was created as part of the 50th anniversary of the Maribor Puppet Theatre.
