Liberating Palestine

Duration: 1 H 30 MIN
event organized by Pekarna Magdalenske mreže and Palestinian Rights Movement

A conversation with Palestinian writer and playwright from Gaza Ahmed Masoud.

Ahmed Masoud grew up in Gaza, where part of his family still lives. He received his PhD in English Literature in the UK, where he founded the theatre and dance group Al Zaytouna and where he now resides. He is the author of numerous radio and theatre works, including the play The Shroud Maker, which was also published in Slovene in the magazine Borec, no. 823-825 (Sophia Publishing House). He has written two novels, Vanished and Come What May, set in Gaza. In his works, the streets of Gaza come alive and the heroes and heroines are intertwined with love, betrayal, the quest for respect and freedom - all under Israeli military occupation.

The conversation with the guest will touch on life in occupied Gaza, his literary work, why the major media houses are complicit in the genocide Israel is perpetrating on the Palestinian people, the silencing of Palestinian voices, and existing and potential forms of resistance and solidarity.

Excerpts from The Shroud Maker will be read by Draga Potočnjak and Ivan Peternelj, theatre artist and artist of the Sloven Youth Theatre. The event is part of the writer's tour in Slovenia and Italy "From Gaza to Palestine".
